KEY TRUTH
Accountability is chosen honesty joined to responsibility. It is not surveillance, humiliation, gossip, or giving another person control over your conscience.
READ TOGETHER
Scripture foundation

TEACH
The lesson
Specific beats vague
“Keep me accountable” is hard to act on. A useful commitment names the action, the time frame, the likely obstacle, and the question you want someone to ask.
Mutual, not superior
Healthy accountability recognizes that every man needs grace and truth. One man is not the owner of another. Both remain responsible before God for their own choices.
Correction aims at restoration
The goal is not exposure or embarrassment. It is honest change, repaired trust where possible, and stronger patterns going forward.
EXAMINE
Start with yourself
- 01Who has permission to ask me a difficult question?
- 02Where am I using vague language to avoid responsibility?
- 03Do I keep another man's confidence unless safety requires qualified help?
- 04What commitment needs a clear follow-up date?
DISCUSS
Questions for the room
- 01What makes accountability safe enough to be honest?
- 02How can correction be direct and gentle at the same time?
- 03What is the difference between confidentiality and hiding danger?
- 04Which commitment would benefit from a weekly check-in?
PRACTICE TOGETHER
Write an accountability agreement
- 01Choose one trustworthy person and one clear growth commitment.
- 02Agree on the exact question he will ask and how often he will ask it.
- 03Decide what honest success, a setback, and a repaired commitment each look like.
- 04Agree that immediate safety risks require qualified help rather than secrecy.
LIVE IT
A seven-day practice

Teach with honesty and care.
- State confidentiality boundaries before discussion: imminent danger, abuse, or threats require appropriate outside help.
- Do not pair men for forced disclosure. Let trust develop with consent.
- Redirect controlling, shaming, or interrogating behavior immediately.
